Simply RedBlue Eyed Soul

‘Blue Eyed Soul’ is the 12th studio album by Simply Red, released in 2019. With this album, the band embraces a soulful sound, drawing inspiration from classic blue-eyed soul and R&B influences. It marked yet another top ten album for the band in the UK charts.

Tracks like ‘Thinking of You’ and ‘Sweet Child’ showcase the band marking a return to their roots while still pushing creative boundaries. Blue Eyed Soul is a compelling exploration of love, passion, and nostalgia. Simply Red were due to tour ‘Blue Eyed Soul’ in 2020 when the covid pandemic hit, and they were forced to postpone until 2022.

1. Thinking Of You

Baby, yeah!
Thinking of you
I will never be blue, baby

Wherever I go
And whatever I do
Baby
I’ll be thinking of you
I will never be blue
Cos I’m thinking of you
Baby
I’ll be thinking of you

There’ve been too many rocks in my heart
So many soul songs tearing me apart
I need to relax and make a new start
Cos you’re the only one that gets deep in my heart

(Bam!)
Cos I’m thinking of you
(Bam!)
I’m thinking of you
(Bam!)
I will never be blue, baby
(I’m thinking of you all night long)

I’ve had the blues
But here’s the news
Baby
I’ll be thinking of you
I will never be blue, baby
Cos I’m thinking of you

And there’s too many dreams have been blown
Just a victim of circumstance, out on my own
I need to relax and make a new start
Cos you’re the only one that get deep in my heart

(Bam!)
Cos I’m thinking of you
(Bam!)
I’m thinking of you
(Bam!)
I’ll never be blue, baby
(I’m thinking of you all night long)

That’s right!

Baby, yeah!
(Bam!)
I’m thinking of you
(Bam!)
I’m thinking of you
(Bam!)
I will never be blue, blue, blue, blue
(I’m thinking of you all night long)
(Bam!)
I will never be blue, blue, blue, blue
(Bam!)
Cos I’m thinking of you
(Bam!)
Baby, yeah!
(Bam!)
I’m thinking of you

2. Sweet Child

Oooh, Sweet Child
We’d better take care of you
Oooh, Sweet Child
Cos you…YOU YOU
Are the future

I see tears where there should be joy
For every little Girl, and every little Boy
A desert that needs some rain
To help you out, and ease your pain
Sweet child
Sweet child of mine

Oooh, Sweet Child
Never, never, never be blue
Oooh, Sweet Child
Yes you YOU YOU
Are our future

We know that you are
And I’m hopin’ that you will go far
And whatever you need
I’ll try to be with you
Cos you, you, you
Are the future!
Yeah, yeah
Alright
Sweet child
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Oooh, Sweet Child
I’m gonna take care of you
Oooh, Sweet Child
We’d better do nurture for you yeah you
Yeah

Alright
Alright
I can feel it, baby
You’re my Sweet Child of mine

And I love you
Always I will love you
Sweet Child of mine
Sweet Child of mine
Alright
Oh baby

3. Complete Love

When I die
There’ll be no sky
No flowers or rain
No sunshine on a grave
But there will always be you my love
You raise me high above

Cos we’ve had Sweet Love
Complete love
And forever, Sweet Love
Complete love
Never never give it up
Never never give it up

No need to cry
My heart is standing by
You will always be mine
And I yours for all time

Yes we’ve had Sweet Love
Complete love
Let me tell you
Sweet Love
Complete love
Never never give it up, oh no
Never never give it up

I look over the ocean
Into a deep starry sky
And in all the time I’ve known you
I never had to wonder why

Cos we’ve had Sweet Love
Complete love
And forever, Sweet Love
Complete love
Never never give it up
Never never give it up, oh no
Never never give it up
Never never give it up
Oh, no, no

4. Take A Good Look

Take a good look at yourself
Take a good look at yourself
Are you happy with what you see?
Have you become all that you wanted to be?

You wanted to know
What in the world was giving you
But now you’ve found out, yeah
This earth don’t owe you a single thing

Take a good look at yourself
Take a good look at yourself
Will you climb the mountain
And reach the top?
Live the life you need and never give up
Take a good look at yourself
Take a good look at yourself

You wanted to know
What in the world was giving you
But now you’ve found out, yeah
This earth don’t owe you a single thing

Take a good look at yourself
Take a good look at yourself
Take a good look at yourself
Take a good look at yourself

5. Ring That Bell

Ring that bell
Why don’t you ring it well
Ring that bell
Why don’t you ring it well

There’s some bad men messing with our future
Let’s give them hell
Raise the alarm
Raise the alarm
And ring that bell

Come on now, hit it hard for me
Sometimes we gotta fight for that right to be free

There’s some bad men messing with our future
Let’s give them hell

Play the ding dong hard
Play your ding dong smart
And ring that bell (ring it)
Why don’t you ring it well (ring it)
Play the ding dong hard
Play your ding dong smart
And ring that bell
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Bad men messing with our future
Let’s give them hell (hell!)
Raise the alarm
Raise the alarm
And ring that bell (ring it)

Come on now, hit it hard for me
Sometimes we gotta fight for that right to be free

There’s some bad men messing with our future
Let’s give them hell

Play the ding dong hard
Play your ding dong smart
And ring that bell (ring it)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah (ring it)
I’m ringing it, ringing it
I’m ringing it (ringing it)
I’m ringing it (ringing it)
I’m ringing it (ringing it)
I’m ringing it (ringing it)
I’m ringing it (ringing it)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
We’re ringing that bell (ringing it)
Ringing that bell (ringing it)…
(Ringing it)…

6. BadBootz

I’m talking ‘bout those bad, bad booties (bad, bad booties)
My rootie, tootie, tooties (rootie, tootie, tooties)
Playing with my mind
Moving my dreams so far outta line

Stomping with my feet
Smiling merrily as I walk on down the street
In my bad, bad booties (bad, bad booties)
My rootie, tootie, tooties (rootie, tootie, tooties)

Well come along with me
Tell me what do you see
I see smiling faces
Move your legs in time
Get up, get those hips swinging to the rhyme

Yes I’m stomping with my feet
Smiling merrily as I walk on down the street
In my bad, bad booties (bad, bad booties)
My rootie, tootie, tooties (rootie, tootie, tooties)

Well come along with me
Tell me what do you see
I see smiling faces
Move your legs in time
Get up, get those hips swinging to the rhyme

Stomping with my feet
Smiling merrily as I walk on down the street
With my bad, bad booties (bad, bad booties)
My rootie, tootie, tooties (rootie, tootie, tooties)

Bad, bad booties (bad, bad booties)
I’m bad, that’s bad (rootie, tootie, tooties)
We’re bad (bad, bad booties)
So bad (rootie, tootie, tooties)
I’m bad (bad, bad booties)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah (bad, bad booties)…

8. Riding On A Train

Riding on a train
Moving along now
Grooving in the rain
It’s getting late now
That driver better concentrate
On getting me back so I’m not late
See I been away so long
I gotta get home now
I been away so long
Feeling alone now

Got my family waiting for me
My love is simple like one, two, three

It’s why I’m riding on a train
It’s getting late now
Who’s gonna take the blame?
Everybody is late now

That’s why I’m riding (move it along)
Riding (move it along)
Riding (move it along)
Riding (move it along)
Riding (move it along)
Riding (move it along)
Riding (move it along)
Riding (move it along)

See I been away so long
I gotta get home now
I been away so long
Feeling alone now
That driver better concentrate
On getting me back so I’m not late
Riding on this train
Moving along now
Grooving in the rain
It’s getting late now

Got my family waiting for me
My love is simple like one, two, three

It’s why I’m riding on a train
It’s getting late now
Who’s gonna take the blame?
Everybody is late now
That’s why I’m riding (moving along)
Riding (moving along)
Riding (move it along)
Riding (move it along)
Riding (move it along)
Yeah, yeah (move it along)
Riding (move it along)
Riding (move it along)
Riding (move it along)
Riding (move it along)
Come on, babe (move it along)
I’m coming home now
I’m coming home (move it along)
I’m coming home (move it along)
I’m coming home (move it along)
I’m getting home now (move it along)
Come on
(move it along)
Woo, hit it, hit it (move it along)

10. Tonight

Tonight, I’m gonna love you
Like I never have loved you before
Because tonight
I’m gonna ask you the question
That keeps this whole world spinning and spinning around

Will you marry me, baby? (I will)
Cos’ I just love you (oh I will)
Marry me now
And our dreams will come true

Because tonight
My heart is spinning and spinning around
And I’m hoping you baby
Will give me a word
Give me a word
From your sweet loving
Tonight

I’m driving home to you darling
Hoping you’re already home
It feels so right
To ask you the question
That’ll keep this whole world spinning and spinning around

I need to marry you baby (oh I do)
Cos’ I just love you
Marry me now (I do)
And my dreams will come true

Because tonight
My heart is spinning and spinning around
And I’m hoping you baby
Will give me a word
Give me a word
From your sweet loving
Tonight
Tonight
Tonight
Tonight
Tonight
